About the Project

The Center for Medical Research and Innovation integrates specialized talent and cutting-edge technology to shorten the path between scientific discovery and its application in health. The CIIM will be a space designed to attract and retain the best researchers in biomedicine, both in Chile and from abroad, with a world-class building.

Project Pillars

Training

A space that brings frontier research closer to students, in a collaborative environment, with state-of-the-art technology and the mission to transform the health of Chileans.

Chile as an Example

First high-biosecurity laboratory in the country. Strengthens national response capacity against global crises and future pandemics.

Creation and Discovery

This space drives medical discoveries that transform into concrete solutions for diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions.

Medicine for the Future

Infrastructure for studying brain function and storing large-scale functional biological samples. It will enable the development of medicine focused on an aging population.

Why Does it Transform Chile?

  • Accelerates translational science, shortening the path between scientific discovery and its real-world application in health.
  • Attracts young national and international talent to research, creation, and innovation in biomedicine.
  • World-class scale, 8,341 m² dedicated to frontier research, with the country's first BSL 3+ laboratory.

Who Benefits

Undergraduate and postgraduate students, national and international researchers, faculty members from the School of Medicine and other faculties. Also, patients and individuals with specific diseases who will benefit from the research; and the State, by contributing knowledge to the country’s public health network.
